Protect Your Investment
Make Sure Your Home Is Under Warranty

Homeowners' warranties cover the expenses associated with repairing or replacing various items in the home. Sellers of resale homes are recommended to offer warranties as an option to a prospective buyer, and buyers should request one if it is not included.

Aspects covered by warranties depend upon the circumstances, but typically include plumbing, electrical, duct work, appliances, heating, air-conditioning, pools, and water heaters. The company servicing the warranty will fix or replace the problem item, but maintenance problems are not covered by warranties.

The Department of Insurance and the Better Business Bureau are great sources for consumers to consult so they can compare warranty companies. Consumers should always read the warranty carefully.
